The 4-day desert tour Marrakech to Merzouga starts after picking you up from your accommodation/airport in Marrakech. Head towards Dades Valley, passing through the High Atlas Mountains and reaching the remarkable Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260m / 7,415ft). This majestic mountain range offers a wealth of breathtaking landscapes as we pass through the Berber territory. From time to time, we will pause at various points along the route for photos.
Arrive at the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. Discover an exceptional site, the best-preserved Kasbah (Fortress) declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perched on a hill and encircled by the desert scenery of the Anti-Atlas, Ait Benhaddou certainly stands out as one of the most enchanting locations in Morocco.
After that, continue our journey of 4 days desert tour Marrakech to Merzouga along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Cross a rugged path that immerses us in the genuine Berber village life of the Atlas Mountains.
We’ll then continue our journey further southeast to the Valley of Roses. A remarkable natural landscape with vibrant and harmonious colours and extensive rose cultivation, truly worth admiring. Afterwards, we’ll drive along a 20-kilometre trail, visiting Berber nomads who reside in caves. Eventually, we reach the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
The second day of our 4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga starts with a satisfying Moroccan breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll pass through the renowned Dades Gorge. Take breaks to wander through its extensive palm forests, historic Kasbahs, and charming adobe villages. Our journey will then take us to the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges, with a height of over 400 metres (1312ft.), and featuring houses skillfully carved into the stone. This is a mystical location characterized by vertical rock walls, sculpted by centuries of water and air erosion, making it undoubtedly an ideal destination for climbers.
Later on, we drive through the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug, picturesque villages seemingly frozen in time. Then advance to Erfoud, located on the fringes of the Sahara desert. This town not only boasts a significant archaeological site, but it also offers the opportunity to explore a marble and fossil workshop.
Our journey will continue until we arrive in Merzouga. Here, you will hop on camels to venture into the Sahara desert for approximately 1.5 hours. Spend the night in a traditional tent. Relish a dinner beneath the starry sky, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums and the warmth of a campfire.
We will start the day with an essential desert experience you shouldn’t miss, the sunrise – a breathtaking display of dunes unfolding and transforming as the sun ascends over the horizon.
Shortly after the sunrise spectacle, a traditional Moroccan breakfast will be served at the camp. Afterwards, you can choose to return to Merzouga village by a 4WD vehicle or camel ride instead.
Then we’ll depart for Rissani, celebrated for its lively and bustling marketplace. Positioned as the ultimate commercial centre before the desert, Rissani offers a distinctive ambience as you explore its bustling souks. The setting comprises shaded alleyways, a vibrant array of colours, and a medley of alluring fragrances, heightened by the renowned blend of spices.
Following our 4 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga a brief stop in Rissani market, our expedition will continue through captivating desert landscapes, defined by prominent black and brown rock formations. This path leads us to the Draa Valley. Surely, the prominent features in this area are the Kasbahs and mud castles, rising from the arid terrain and gracing the valley with their magnificent architectural allure.
At last, we’ll reach Ouarzazate for an overnight stay and some well-deserved rest following our extensive journey.
After breakfast today, we’ll have the opportunity to explore the renowned Kasbah Taourirt, hailed as one of the most immaculately preserved Kasbahs in all of Morocco. This labyrinthine marvel provides awe-inspiring panoramic views. Additionally, our itinerary includes a visit to the Atlas Corporation Film Studios, the city’s largest studio complex, displaying the grandeur of its studios and set designs.
