Itinerary 2-Day Desert Trip from Marrakech to Zagora

Best 2 days desert tour
Day 1: Marrakech – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Zagora Desert

We start the 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora, after picking you up from your accommodation/airport at an agreed time. Then we will drive through the High Atlas Mountains to reach the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass at an elevation of 2260m (7,415ft).

Afterward, we will make our way down to the southern plain situated between the High Atlas and the Anti Atlas Mountains, where the scenery transforms into a lush and fertile landscape. It is precisely at this point that both the landscape and climate start to undergo a noticeable shift.

Once we arrive at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fascinating fortified village declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, you’ll explore this Kasbah situated at the foot of a hill, undoubtedly one of the most renowned villages in the region, and its numerous Kasbahs and remarkable state of conservation have cemented its status as a prominent filming location in southern Morocco. Later, we will proceed on our journey to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the gateway to the Sahara, where we’ll stop for a lunch break at a local restaurant.

following the lunch break, our journey will continue towards Zagora desert, crossing the Draa Valley, a stretched palm grove that lines the road for many kilometres. This valley, spanning approximately 200 km, is the largest in the country.

Once in Zagora,  you’ll hop on camels for your journey into the desert. You won’t want to miss the breathtaking sunset, a moment that allows you to completely disconnect from everything. Your final destination will be a camp in the middle of the dunes, where you will spend the night in traditional tents, relishing a tranquil dinner in the heart of the desert followed by some traditional and Berber music.

Day 2: Zagora Desert – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
We start day two of our 2-day desert trip early in the morning to ensure we don’t miss the enchanting moment of sunrise when the sun’s emergence and the vivid hues of the sky will captivate you for minutes. The dunes come to life with striking colours as the sun ascends. Following this, our camel ride will lead us back to the hotel for a refreshing shower and a delicious traditional Moroccan breakfast.

Following breakfast, the tour will proceed in the direction of Marrakech, making a stop at the Taourirt Kasbah. This Kasbah is renowned for its remarkable preservation and intricate interior passages, creating a somewhat labyrinthine experience.

As we make our way back to Marrakech, we’ll stop for a lunch break, enjoy some tea, and of course, make various stops to capture memorable moments along this fascinating trip.

In the afternoon, we’ll drop you off at your accommodation in Marrakech concluding your 2-day desert trip from Marrakech to Zagora.

The driver was extremely kind! Very helpful and accommodating.
Thanks to him, it wasn’t a long drive!

You can’t come to Marrakech without taking this tour! It’s very rewarding. You get to see many different landscapes, places, lifestyles and ways of life. I still can’t get over how authentic each place is!
Thanks to visits to the Berber valley and the town of Ouarzazate, as well as regular stops along the way, we discovered some wonderful places and the stories behind them.

The desert is magical! What you see is straight out of a postcard. It’s even better!

Very good experience. The optional quad bike ride was a success. The only thing that could be improved is the restaurants where we stop to eat during the trip, which are fairly simple and expensive for what they offer.
