5 Day Desert Trip from Agadir Itinerary

Day 1Agadir to the Saffron & Carpet Routes

The start of your 5-day desert trip from Agadir begins with an early drive into Morocco’s deep south. Our private Morocco desert tour moves east, stopping first at the walled city of Taroudant (often called Little Marrakech) for a glimpse of its historical ramparts. We then cross the Anti-Atlas toward Taliouine, known as the Saffron Capital, offering a moment to experience this precious local trade.
We continue to Taznakht, the renowned center of Berber carpet weaving, before passing through the stark, unique landscapes near Bouazzer. This long, scenic day is structured around authentic stops and culminates in Agdez, the quiet, historic gateway to the Draa Valley.

Day 2Draa Valley Palm Oases & The Road to Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, overlooking the vast palm groves, we begin the most stunning part of the journey through the Draa Valley. This ancient caravan route is a ribbon of life, showcasing an endless chain of palm oases, traditional Ksours, and magnificent hidden kasbahs. This leg offers profound insight into Morocco’s history tours. We stop in Nkob, a fortified village renowned for its over 45 ancient kasbahs, offering excellent photo opportunities and a genuine moment of cultural immersion. From there, we leave the valley and head toward the rising dunes of Erg Chebbi. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you join a Sahara camel caravan, and the camel trekking experience begins, leading us into the heart of the dunes just as the desert sunset paints the sand gold. Enjoy the night in the middle of the dunes in a desert camp under the stars.

Day 3Erg Chebbi Desert and Nomadic Discovery

Today is dedicated to the adventure in the Sahara Desert. After watching the desert sunrise and enjoying breakfast, we venture out for a morning of deep exploration. We use a 4×4 to visit local nomadic families, learning firsthand about their traditional way of life, and drive to the village of Khamlia, where we experience the mesmerizing, rhythmic sounds of Gnaoua music. For lunch, we pause for an authentic picnic served in the shade of a lonely acacia tree deep in the desert. After lunch, we drive back to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga. You will check into a comfortable, modern hotel or riad. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax by the cooling swimming pool or simply enjoy the desert view from the terrace, a perfect transition from Sahara camping to comfort.

Day 4Rissani Market - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley

We depart Merzouga after breakfast and drive to Rissani, the historical starting point of the Alaouite Dynasty. We explore the bustling, authentic local market (souk), a key stop on our Morocco sightseeing tours. Our journey then heads west toward the high-desert mountains. We visit the towering, dramatic cliffs of the Todra Gorges, allowing time for a short walk and an invigorating trek in the Atlas canyons before moving on to the Dades Valley. We spend the night in the valley, famous for its unique “monkey finger” rock formations and dramatic scenery.

Day 5Roses Valley - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Agadir

The last day of the 5-day desert trip from Agadir is a magnificent final drive. We travel through the renowned Roses Valley near Kalaat M’Gouna, before heading to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” taking a final moment to see the city known for its film studios and its nearby jewel, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. From Ouarzazate, we take on the final drive back toward the Atlantic. This scenic route through the mountains offers superb panoramic views and moments to reflect on your incredible Morocco trip. We make comfortable stops before concluding your private Morocco tour experience, dropping you off at your accommodation in Agadir in the late afternoon.

Family Traveller

The food throughout was fantastic, especially the dinner in the luxury desert camp. But the true highlight was the picnic lunch, sitting under that lone acacia tree, sharing traditional Berber food in the middle of the quiet desert was incredibly special. A great way to feel connected to the land. Highly recommend this Morocco trip.

Couple Traveller

This is not your average desert tour. The decision to go through Taliouine and the Bouazzer region on Day 1 was brilliant; it felt like a true overland expedition before we even hit the Draa. The stop in Nkob on Day 2 to see all the kasbahs was a real cultural immersion. If you’ve been to Morocco before and want an authentic, less-traveled route, book this private Morocco desert tour.

From the red walls of Taroudant to the saffron fields of Taliouine, every day offered completely different, breathtaking scenes. The light in the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunrise and sunset is incomparable. Even the Todra Gorges felt fresh and dramatic. A dream trip for anyone looking for truly diverse panoramic views.
